Give Till You Sweat

Ottawa Fit is built on a sense of community.  We're always looking for ways to help those in need.

ORC Angels

All of the membership fees from our Ottawa Running Club go towards charitable causes.  We've donated to organizations such as the Red Cross and Doctors Without Borders, we've helped ship shoes to Africa, and we've put on free races for kids like The Wellington Mile.

Our newest charitable practice is something we call a Salmon Run.  Twice a year we add our local food bank to our route and run two tins of salmon each there for delivery.  Our last run netted 89 tins!

We've very excited about the future as we plan to bring back our famous Mile race and look at other ways to help those kids in our community that could use a helping hand.

OTC Anniversary

Each October, our triathlon club invites a famous athlete to town for their coaching clinic and anniversary party.  Tickets to the party are $20 each and all funds are donated to a charity of choice, typically raising $1000.  The charities are typically ones that our members are involved in.  We have lots of amazing people in our community and it's an honour to support their work.

Charity Spins

Our charity spin program is a great way for the community to take advantage of our beautiful facility and raise funds while raising fun.

About the Rides

We host charity spins on the last Friday of each month as a way of supporting our community. The rides are two hours long with a suggested donation of $10 per hour.  With our 20 bikes, that's a chance for a local charity to raise a quick and fun $400.  Most of our team of instructors have favourite charities that they'll be supporting so watch as our schedule comes together.  All rides run from 7pm to 9pm, leaving plenty of time for a post-workout snack and beverage!

Tips for Organizers

  • Your Role: This is your event.  We will provide the studio and help with promotion but the rest is up to you!

  • Promotion: While we'll include the event in the newsletters and on Facebook to our community of over 1000 active people, the emphasis is on the charity and the organizer to really reach out to their own community and pull them in for this event.

  • Waivers: All participants need to sign a waiver that includes a release of Ottawa Fit Ltd. Here is the waiver to use.  Print it on individual sheets, add your own name, and have each participant sign before the event begins.

  • Registration: We highly recommend that you set up advanced online registration through such means as PayPal or email transfers.

  • Capacity:  There are 22 bikes with the pedal breakdown of: 5 Look Keo, 11 SPD/Basket, 5 Shimano Road, 1 SPD. You'll need to keep that in mind when booking places.  Two of the Keos and two of the Shimano Road sets can be converted into baskets for running shoes.

  • Duration: Organizers typically have participants arrive from 630 to 7pm, ride from 7 to 830, then have a social downstairs till 9pm, a time for prizes and snacks.

  • Draw Prizes: If collecting draw prizes locally please make clear the donation is to your charity and not to Ottawa Fit or the OTC.  We are one of the donating bodies, volunteering our studio.

  • Be Original: Try to make the session as different an experience as possible - music (even LIVE music), lights, profiles, fun, contests, whatever.

  • Studio Care: Our studio is yours from 6pm to 9pm.  Please treat it like your living room.  No outdoor shoes inside the studio - that's the biggest rule.  As we have classes the next morning, please ensure you tidy and clean as necessary.
