The World's Oldest Sport

Athletics is the official international name for track and field.  Most think the sport is reserved for school-aged kids but the world of Masters Athletics will prove you wrong.  Ages 35 to 100 gather in this very special community to compete with themselves and others in the world of run, jump and throw.

Ottawa Masters
Athletics Club

Toronto has a vibrant masters scene and we think Ottawa should too. That's why we launched our club in January of 2015.  Like the OTC and ORC, this club will first and foremost be about community; bringing like-minded individuals together to share and grow a passion for sport and health.  The club is coordinated by Geordie McConnell who has competed in masters for the last 7 years.  View his video to learn more >

Join the Club

Our goal is to promote masters athletics in Ottawa and give local athletes a simple and inexpensive way to enter the sport.  Once a year we have a clinic to help our athletes better understand the technical elements of the events then the members go off and train, for the most part, on their own.  Some members meet up to share workouts but then everyone gets together for our February fun meet and some then also head to Toronto in March for Nationals. We are only active in the winter indoor season (for now).  Here's how to join (and it's pretty simple!)

  1. Sign up for your Masters Ontario membership ($55).

    • This allows you to train and compete as a masters athlete in our club and at sanctioned meets.  Enter Ottawa Masters Athletics Club as your club while joining.

  2. Contact us to let us know you've joined.

  3. Start running, jumping and throwing!  We'll connect you into the community regarding clinics, meets and possible training connections.

The OMAC Singlet

We place an order each year for our stylin' singlets.  Having the club gear helps to bring us together as a team at meets, flying the colours.

OMAC Track and Field Workshop

On Sunday, January 29 at 4pm at the Louis Riel Dome, we're going to have a workshop run by our most experienced members to give you some tips to help you tackle some new events, be it on the track or field.  You must pay the track user fee, that is the only charge.  Please email us if you plan to attend. Watch this page and our newsletter for more info.

Training Resources

We're self-coached but share what knowledge we have with each other.

There are also some great resources online including a video series produced in Australia.

Injury Proof

As we age we lose strength and potentially develop muscular imbalances that lead to injury. Our Tri Fit strength circuits are designed to strengthen and rebalance the athletic body while also improving power and performance. Plus, the instructor is a track coach!
